Instrumentation Installation The field work at the Kimballton Mine in Ripplemeade, Virginia, includes NX sample coring of the roof and floor of the 15E level of the mine, USBM-method overcore stress measurements, and installation of Geokon mupltiple-position borehole extensometers (MPBXs).  An NX sample core hole was drilled through the ore zone and into the footwall [...]

Agapito Associates, Inc. (AAI) was contracted to conduct an investigation of a mine roof fall, review repair procedures, develop instrumentation recommendations, suggest modifications to blasting practices to improve blast round performance, and conduct regular follow-up reviews of mining operations.  Ground control inspections were performed, ground support and monitoring recommendations developed, and ground control instrumentation monitored.

AAI was contracted by the City Engineer for a Midwest municipality to study the practicality of disposing of water treatment sludge in an underground stone mine near the treatment plant. The study included the following tasks: Mapping joints and filling types Sampling joint filling materials Examining joint filling materials under a microscope Sending joint filling [...]

AAI was contracted by Graymont to perform a study of alternative accesses from surface to the underground limestone mine at Pleasant Gap, Pennsylvania.  The options included two declines through existing workings, new declines from surface to access future mining areas, and a hoisting shaft to access future mining areas.  In addition to hoisting from the [...]

Ground inspections for stability assessment of portal, repair shops, and other key mine areas. Core drilling of roof and floor to help define geology and establish horizons for best roof stability and extraction of the resource. Review and recommendations for convergence monitoring, ground support, and drilling and blasting practices for improved ground control.
