AAI DELIVERS EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE DRILLING, CORING, AND PRESSURE-GROUTING DAMS ACROSS THE UNITED STATES.
Our experience in concrete arch and gravity dams includes core drilling to investigate dam structural integrity and characterize bedrock conditions, installing geotechnical instrumentation, collecting samples for concrete properties testing, and measuring in-situ stress inside and beneath the dams.
Holes have been drilled in high-pressure and high-flow regimes, and difficult-to-access locations on the crests of dams, on barges, from scaffolding on dam faces and below gates, on spillways, and inside narrow tunnels, galleries, and shafts. Specialty grouts have been used, including non-shrinking low-alkali grouts and plasticizer compounds, where existing concrete in the dam is vulnerable to alkali-silica reaction.
Special containment and flow control systems have been designed and fabricated for sites where water contamination, dam breaching, or inundation was a concern. Drill rigs are routinely operated with biodegradable (food-grade) hydraulic oil to remove any risk of petrochemical contamination.
