In 2018, AAI conducted the first stress measurements at the Pumpkin Hollow underground copper mine shortly after construction of the primary production shaft. A total of seven successful 3D stress measurements were conducted from the 1900 Level using CSIRO HI Cell gauges. The rock was especially hot and stiff, with a Young’s Modulus exceeding 168 GPa in some locations. Drilling equipment was slung and lowered down the shaft before installation of the permanent shaft cage. Results advanced mine design.
